Your credit score is very important. It’s used by banks and other potential lenders to determine your creditworthiness and, in many instances, determines your interest rate on potential loans. Many people are familiar with the concept of a credit score, but many don’t know that you everyone is entitled to one free credit report per year. This is a very useful tool in ensuring a correct credit report. It is not uncommon that incorrect information is entered on a credit report, or even that a creditor fails to credit payments. Staying well informed of your credit report is an important step to creating a healthy financial situation.
To get a free credit report, simply go to www.annualcreditreport.com, and fill out the information. You will have to answer several security questions to prove your identity, but the questions are not particularly difficult. It should be noted that it will provide you with a credit report, but will not provide you with a credit score. You must choose one of the 3 major credit reporting bureaus from which to receive your report (Equifax, Experian, Transunion).
